SSA-16 ~ 16-bit Solid State Accelerograph

SSA-16 is a 16 bits Digital Strong Motion Accelerograph. With a resolution of 1 part in 65536, the SSA-16 can record a full scale of 2g, as well as perturbations as small as 30x106g in the same record. The enhanced dynamic range of the SSA-16 is suitable for source mechanism and wave propagation studies. The frequency response from DC to 50 Hz provides adequate bandwidth for rupture mechanism studies.

The SSA-16 is equipped with triaxial Force Balance Accelerometers, with a full-scale sensitivity of 1g and optionally of 2g. Data are stored into a CMOS RAM of 1 megabyte, which is optionally expandable to 6 Mb.

Standard recording time is approximately 20 minutes and 120 minutes with the larger memory. Highly accurate timing of ±1 millisecond is achieved via an internal Omega receiver with a synchronized clock.

A simple RS-232 serial interface provides connection to telephone lines for remote interrogation. Playback capability includes direct transfer of data from the SSA-16 solid state RAM into any PC.
